Biography
1894 Born in Narrandera, NSW
Served with the A.I.F. in World War I for four years
Studied at the Julian Ashton Art School, Sydney
Member of the Society of Artists
Worked as a designer and draughtsman, gained renown in Australia and America for his book plates and book illustrations
1922-26 Specialised in etched plates
1926-38 Specialised in woodblocks
1929 Early oil 'The Green Pineapple' was reproduced in colour in 'Art in Australia' magazine
1938 Gave up designing and graphic work to become a professional painter, encouraged by friend and patron J. R. McGregor
