The Shoalhaven is one of the most important subjects in Arthur Boyd’s remarkable body of work. The Boyds purchased the first of two Shoalhaven River properties, Riversdale in 1973 and the second, Bundanon in 1979.

Sandra McGrath explains that 'Arthur Boyd’s Shoalhaven pictures give us a new depth of understanding of landscape, a new set of forms and vistas to look upon. Each work is tied to a specific place that has been watched and observed for hour after hour before it becomes absorbed and relived in paint.'

Arthur Boyd is represented in the National Gallery of Australia, all state galleries, many regional galleries, and many other important public collections both in Australia and overseas.
