This painting was one of a number of small sketches that she painted from a similar viewpoint – this one possibly from one of the bridges over the Isere River which runs through the centre of Grenoble. It is clearly painted in spring or summer, whereas others show a snowy scene. It may have been worked up later into a larger painting, as at least one other is known to have been.
