In March 1984 Friend moved to Paddington. This move to Paddington inspired a beautiful series of still-lifes a departure from his long affiliation with the nude. He wrote about these works in his book Art in a Classless Society, published in 1985. “The greengrocer’s shop is crammed with colourful models (and) attractive vegetables.”
