BIOGRAPHY
Francis Lymburner was born in Brisbane, Queensland in 1916. An award-winning student, his early art studies were at the Brisbane Technical College in 1934-36. Lymburner exhibited solo for the first time at Notanda Galleries, Sydney in 1941, and was conscripted into the army in 1942. (He was discharged two years later.) A member of ‘The Sydney Group’ along with fellow artists Paul Haefliger, Donald Friend and Justin O’Brien among others, he was added to the Art Gallery of New South Wales collection in 1951, and held numerous exhibitions before leaving for London in 1952.
