Patrick Hockey was a man of many worlds – a cattleman and horseman who ran ‘Nindooinbah’ in Queensland but also held court in fashionable circles in Sydney, London and all over the world. His paintings quickly rose to prominence after Stan Rapotec convinced Hockey and his parents that Patrick should be a painter first and a farmer later. He was a 'bon vivant' in the truest sense and was perfectly at home amongst princesses and movie stars, the very collectors who coveted his work.
Unfortunately, the world lost Patrick before he reached fifty years of age although we have been left with his wonderful, observant paintings of outback life, the interiors of his archetypal homestead Nindooinbah, and the stunning bush floral arrangements he has become remembered for.
