'Pushing paint to the extreme, risk-taking and experimentation' are words New Zealand artist Philippa Blair uses to describe her style. A vibrant, colourful and strong palette are also features of Blair’s work, which engages the viewer on many levels. Blair states 'I like people to decipher the painting from their own eyes, sensibilities and experience… there are elements of drawing, painting and carving – an almost sculptural topography'. The artist’s work often refers to the ever-changing landscape and the effects of the elements; wind, fire, natural erosion, disintegration and more recently, earthquakes.
