Following from his huge success in this years Archibald, Wynn and Sulman prizes, Zhong Chen has produced a selection of stunning pixel paintings and expressive portraits for this month’s exhibition at the gallery.
The Guangzhou Series paintings, inspired by Chen’s recent visit to his home state in Southern China, incorporate Chen’s renowned romanticized portraits of pixelated Chinese beauties as well as more painterly portraits and double portraits of Chinese adolescents which explore the nature of painting and paint.
Zhong Chen is represented in various public collections including the Art Gallery of South Australia and Macquarie University, Sydney. He has been the recipient of numerous coveted awards including the Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarship and the SBS Australian Contemporary Award.
